4 Natural Ways to Get More Energy Than You Had in High School

11 May 2022

There is nothing worse than getting a full 8 or 9 hours of sleep only to wake up in the morning still feeling like dog shit.

You talk to most busy women these days and they’re surviving purely on caffeine and convenience store snacks. Between stimulants and stress, the sleep you get doesn’t feel restful and you end up running on fumes and crashing a few days later.

Female saying I just have no energy right now.

PUT THE REDBULL DOWN and back away slowly!! Because stimulants are not the answer to your energy problem.

I used to think that coffee or monster energy drinks were going to help me stay focused through work, energize me for workouts, and help me to feel my best.

In reality, doing all that led to the total opposite.

Between headaches and brain fog, my head didn’t get any clearer with coffee. My workouts started to get harder and my strength plateaued. After a few weeks of running on an empty tank, I would inevitably crash and burn.

There was a point in time when I could fall asleep almost anywhere and, once I was asleep, nothing short of a fire alarm could wake me up.

After a few months of going through the same cycle and still feeling like I needed to drink a gallon of coffee to keep my eye open, I started reflecting on what I did for energy in the past, back when I was a student-athlete.

I noticed that when I played high-level sports, I took care of myself and my body in a different way than I did as a full-time worker. For me, it was all about getting back to basics and fueling myself the right way.

Getting more energy the natural way may seem ineffective but I’ve worked with hundreds of women over the age of 30 and helped them get back to feeling like the best and most energetic version of themselves in as little as 4 weeks!!

Here are my 4 natural ways to get more energy than you had in high school!

  1. Drink water

What's the only nutrient that has been shown to enhance performance for all but the most demanding endurance activities? It's not some pricey sports drink. It's water. If your body is short of fluids, one of the first signs is a feeling of fatigue.

2. Limit alcohol

One of the best hedges against low energy is to try and avoid alcohol in the evening. Alcohol is a depressant that end up slowing you and your body systems down to a crawl. Alcohol comsumed before bed can also prevent REM sleep so even though you’re technically sleeping you still aren’t getting the restorative rest you need to feel energized the next day. If you're going to drink, do so in moderation at a time when you don't mind having your energy wind down.

3.Eat for energy

Eating sugary and processed foods in excess will take your blood sugar (and energy levels) on a roller coaster. These foods are processed quickly giving you a false burst of energy before getting all used up and forcing you to come down off that energy spike leaving you feeling more drained than before. For more energy, focus on eating whole grains, high-fiber vegetables, nuts, and healthy fats like avocados or olive oil for sustained energy.

4. Release some stress

Stress impacts everything from sleep to hunger to our emotional regulation. With too much stress, our body starts to shut down and cause more serious help problems than just low energy. Controlling your stress may look like asking for more help around the house, offloading some of your tasks at work, and taking some time to just rest guilt-free. Things like meditation, therapy, connection with nature or friends, and even time in nature can reduce stress and breath some LIFE back into you!!!

Most of the time, when we consider healthy habit shifts, all we think about are the aesthetic goals that come along with a healthier lifestyle. And, listen, losing body fat is great  and can give you more energy BUT it’s not just being lighter than will help.

It’s about making all these activities a part of your daily lifestyle so that you feel happier, have more energy for your family and your career, move with less pain, and experience more LIFE. Those are the things that really matter.

Try implementing these four tips into your daily routine and I’m sure that you’ll start seeing changes in your energy almost overnight!! If you want to learn more about healthy habits, check out my other article Five Reliable Ways To Build Healthy Habits For Life!
